Understanding Italian Airsoft Legislation: A Comprehensive Guide

In Italy, airsoft legislation is designed to regulate the use and sale of airsoft replicas, ensuring player safety and compliance with the law. This guide will provide an overview of the key aspects of Italian airsoft legislation, helping players navigate the legal requirements and enjoy the sport responsibly.

Classification of Airsoft Replicas in Italy

Italian legislation differentiates between airsoft replicas based on their power and appearance. According to the LEGISLATIVE DECREE 27 September 1991, n. 313 (Annex I), faithful imitations of real firearms are not considered toys.

All replicas developing a velocity of less than 7.5J are classified as "weapons of modest offensive capacity" and are subject to specific regulations, as outlined in the DECREE 9 August 2001, n. 362.

Restrictions for Airsoft Replicas

For airsoft purposes, replicas must not exceed 1 joule of power, and the last 3 centimeters must be painted red. Sale of these replicas is permitted to persons 16 years of age and older, as stated in the LEGISLATIVE DECREE 26 October 2010, n. 204 (Article 5).

Replicas with a power between 1 and 7.5 joules are considered airguns and can only be used for target shooting. The red tip may be removed; however, this does not constitute an offence but may be considered an aggravating circumstance in the event of an offence.

Staying Informed and Playing Responsibly

As an airsoft player in Italy, it is important to stay informed about the relevant legislation and play the sport responsibly. By understanding the legal requirements, players can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
